Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Goodbye Stacy Coldicott?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 11/06/2003

FEARS are growing that Stacy Coldicott could be set for the Blundell Park exit. Wanted by two other clubs he has been given an unspecified deadline to sign a massively reduced deal at Blundell Park.

Despite facing a pay cut of around two thirds he still wants to extend his five-year stay with the Mariners. The Grimsby Telegraph reports that a fortnight ago he had been close to agreeing a two-year contract with the Mariners before the offer on the table was revised.

"I'm just waiting to see what's going to happen. The lads understand that there is a big financial change occurring in football. It's just a case of reaching a satisfactory arrangement for all parties. The club have got their best interests at heart and that's understandable."

"I haven't given up hope of staying but if another offer comes in I'll have to consider it. I've had a sniff from a Third Division club and an enquiry from one in the First Division. It's nice to know that they're out there and it does pick you up a bit."

"I want to come back to Grimsby and crack on there - but it's out of my hands. I'd like to have a good crack at getting Grimsby back up into the First Division."

Coldicott has had his full leg plaster removed at Grimsby Hospital last week - 10-and-a-half weeks after the incident.

"It's been a long, long time and it feels good to have my leg back! The wastage in the muscle wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I've been down the gym a lot and that's put me in good stead. I'm just building it back up and hoping to be ready for pre-season, wherever I am."
