Town Cannot Afford Daws

DESPITE being handed a free transfer by Division One outfit Rotherham, midfielder Nicky Daws will not be returning to Blundell Park, as the Mariners cannot afford to have another full-time professional in their squad.

"We brought him here with a view to keeping him on, but because of our financial position it just isn't possible," said Town boss Paul Groves. "I'm disappointed but there isn't a lot I can do."

Daws enjoyed a successful month on loan at Blundell Park, where he was ever-present in the centre of midfield. His fellow loanee, striker Iffy Onuora, was signed following his loan spell; however, that was using money which Town boss Paul Groves had been allocated for an additional forward at the start of the season.

In other news 19-year-old Town striker Giovanni Carchedi is facing a long lay-off after sustaining ligament damage in Wednesday's 6-0 win over Darlington by the reserves.
