Boulding And Pouton To Gillingham!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 08/01/2004

Grimsby Town stars Mick Boulding and Alan Pouton could be on their way to Gillingham by the end of the month, if reports that Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler wants to sign them now and not wait until the end of the season, are true.

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season but the Grimsby Telegraph said today that the Gills are understood to want them on board now to spearhead a spring push at the Division One top spots.

It appears that a bid of £45,000 will activate a clause in Boulding's contract and render the Mariners powerless to keep him.

But Town chairman Peter Furneaux said there had been no contact with Gillingham: "The last I heard their man (Paul Scally) was in Las Vegas. There's been no interest that I know of. He hasn't spoken to me about it."

"There will always be stories about players. There always has been. I've spoken about the players out of contract in the summer. There's no point in repeating myself."

The Telegraph also said that Gillingham are currently on the verge of selling striker Paul Shaw to Sheffield United Hessenthaler will want to move quickly to replace him.
