Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Wanted - Experienced Manager!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 10/02/2004

LINCOLN City boss Keith Alexander appears to be the leading candidate for the vacant managers job at Grimsby Town, although Alan Buckley cannot be discounted.

On Buckley, chairman Peter Furneaux told the Grimsby Telegraph; "I can't comment on any individual. I don't know if Alan would want the job or if he wants to be back in football."

"I haven't spoken to him for about two years. It's up to people to apply and for the board to decide on the right man."

"I want to make sure we get the right applicants. It will depend on who applies, if they've already got jobs and all sorts of things like that."

"We've put somebody in charge at the moment and I've spoken to the players. I expect Graham Rodger and Neil Woods to be in charge for this weekend."

"We need someone to take us forward. Something hasn't gone right. Paul did well when he first started and we don't know where it went wrong." "The pedigree of the players he brought in was good. They are good enough to get us up the table and we don't know why it turned out like this. I told them that yesterday that we should all look at how we played a part in Paul's departure."

"It was a sad day for the club. I've still got high hopes for Paul and I think this is only a blip in his career. But we needed to take action now."
