Injury Double Whammy

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/03/2005

RUSSELL Slade has been handed an injury headache following Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Rochdale with the news that injured pair Michael Reddy and Jason Crowe will be out of action for a minimum of three weeks each. Reddy (groin) and Crowe (ankle) both limped off during a night of misfortune at Spotland.

With Town having considerably trimmed their squad in recent weeks both players will be sorely missed, and Slade may have to turn to the more inexperienced squad members to make up the numbers over the course of the next few weeks.

Grimsby's options up front are limited. Andy Parkinson is more effective on the wing, so 21-year-old David Soames may be called up for a rare first team start against Oxford on Saturday. Fellow youngster Danny North is also injured, after himself reaching the fringes of the first team last month. The alternative is to play Parkinson alongside Gritton up front, and bring Graham Hockless off the bench into a wide midfield role.

Utility player Crowe has generally played on the right side of midfield this season. Terry Fleming has also filled in in that position during Crowe's last ankle injury spell, which will allow Russell Slade to play Coldicott, Pinault and Fleming all in the same side, should he choose.

If Town receive any more injuries or suspensions they will be seriously in trouble.
