Ban Lifted - Official

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 08/04/2005

As was expected, Grimsby Town Football Club have lifted the ban on Radio Humberside and normal relations between the club and the BBC have been resumed.

Joint Statement from the BBC and GTFC

There have been difficulties caused to the broadcasting partnership between BBC Radio Humberside and Grimsby Town Football Club.

BBC Radio Humberside always seeks to ensure that its coverage is fair and balanced, however, the station recognises that some of its recent output about Grimsby Town Football Club has led to concerns being raised by the Club.

Both parties have now discussed the relevant issues and have agreed to resume an improved broadcasting relationship. John Fenty commented: "It's been a very distracting affair just when the club needed everyone on board.

"We are not looking back. The mediation process concluded that a number of things should be implemented. The joint statement has been issued and a grievance procedure and protocol have been set in place. The details of these have now been agreed.

The club are pleased that the interview ban can now be lifted and that an improved relationship will exist between BBC Radio Humberside and the football club." END

John Fenty said "We are not looking back." So be it. Enough has been said and it is now history.

Let us get on with the 'Save The Mariners" campaign.
