Beat the Bookies: Week 30

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 22/02/2006

LAST weekend's postponement meant a week went by without a bet. However, Carlisle's 5-0 win over Rushden was good news for my two outstanding bets of Rushden to get relegated and Carlisle to win the league!

Home > 2005-2006 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 30

The season has now reached the stage where almost every game is important for one reason or another, and nearly all teams still have something to play for. Grimsby take on Chester at home. a match they have to win against the team currently bottom of the form table with just 3 points from 18. bet365.com offer 8/15 for a Town win, but it would be a brave man to part with his money at those odds with our home form! 11/4 for a draw, or even a shock away win at 9/2 with bet365.com look better value.

Elsewhere Carlisle should romp home at Barnet, a tempting 13/10 with bet365.com, although the Cumbrians have played a potentially draining midweek game in the LDV Northern Final. Likewise stuttering Wycombe have an "easy" home game against struggling Oxford. Wycombe are 4/6 with bet365.com, but they draw too many games to contemplate backing at that price. Northampton and Leyton Orient have harder games against Wrexham and Darlington respectively.

Peterborough are coming up on the rails, and are still dark horses for an automatic promotion place. Posh should beat Bristol Rovers at home, with bet365.com's 5/6 offering a reasonable return for one's money.

Finally an upset. Chelsea are more than wobbling at the moment. Can Harry Rednapp's Portsmouth cause a huge upset with a win at Stamford Bridge. 16/1 are the odds with bet365.com? Let's hope so!
