Northampton Match Ratings

By: Jake Olley

TODAY'S match at Blundell Park had more twists and turns than a Hollywood blockbuster. Unfortunately for the Mariners the ending was not a happy one, but there will be a sequel next week against Lincoln which could make up for it.

Mildenhall Showed his passion at the end as he was virtually in tears when he heard the dreaded news. Didn't have a lot to do today though he will be disappointed with his positioning for the goal. If we go up he'll still be here but if not cannot see him at the club. 6

Croft Didn't make a huge impact and was eventually substituted for Kalala. Got down the wing well and did okay. 6

McDermott Returned well today and was a immediate threat going forward. He defended well and didn't make any notable mistakes. A pleasing performance from Macca. 7

Whittle Defended very well today and stuck a foot out to deny the Cobblers a goal from a free kick prior to the goal. Communicated well with Jones and offered Town a commitment and solidarity that not many mid thirties centre backs offer. 7

R.Jones Did well and cleared most Northampton dangers though he couldn't clear one far enough which managed to get in the path of Gilingham. He has become a huge favourite at Blundell Park after being a donkey for most of last year and I hope he stays. 7

Goodfellow Did nothing major in the game really but still looked a threat on the left side. I don't really see him as a winger but maybe as a striker to latch on to balls. He still did okay and could be a real threat to Lincoln next week. 6.5

Cohen Surprisingly not as effective in position as out I think on today's showing. He was involved in the game as much and wasn't allowed to tackle as much as he would like as that is one of his main attributes. Not as good as at right back. 6

Woodhouse No real impact on the game and it seems it will not be his last in football. Forced a decent save from Harper which brought back memories of Kalala's. A disappointing display and will need to be better at Lincoln. 6

Bolland Battled with a dead leg and still tried to win every ball he could. He is not a fancy player who gracefully passes the ball through; no Bolly is a ball winner and a grafter and it was obvious he wouldn't miss this game for the world. Very surprised there has been no interest from bigger clubs. 8

G.Jones Won a penalty that nearly clinched promotion. Apart from that he almost and in my opinion should've had another in the first half. He then had to feed on scraps and did very little otherwise. Won a penalty. 7

Mendes Looked a threat in the first half and should've scored a second after Oxford's first. An okay display and was always going to be replaced by Reddy in the second. Not bad. 6.5

Subs:

Reddy Showed lightning pace but didn't really have a chance to score. 6

Kalala Did very well in the middle and scored a penalty. 7.5

Parkinson Despite being booed as he came on which is disgraceful, Parky bounced back and tested the 'keeper a couple of times. But why do people hate one their own players so much? 7
