MPs Show Stadium Support

By: GTFC
Date: 14/01/2007

Senior club officials met with MPs Austin Mitchell, Shona McIsaac and Ian Cawsey on Friday, and the club is delighted to announce that they have all pledged their support for the new stadium scheme at Great Coates.

They will be writing individually to the club, to confirm such support in time hopefully for their responses to be included in the committee report which is so important - particularly when the application goes before the Government.

Oliver Cowling (Study Support Centre), Ian Fleming, Shona McIsaac, John Fenty, Ian Cawsey and Austin Mitchell.

After a wide ranging debate, club officials feel that in particular, they had demonstrated the scheme has good potential for delivery and it also offered many benefits to the whole community, including for village of Great Coates.

It was concluded that the Great Coates site is the only suitable site and that the fears of the residents will be alleviated through robust safeguards, included in a legal agreement and the club's determination to be a good neighbour.

The club feels that they left the meeting quite content that Grimsby Town Football Club has the concerns of the village residents at heart.
