A Day To Remember - For One Fan!

The Fishy is the kit sponsor of Town's assistant manager, Stuart Watkiss. At the end of the season kit sponsors are presented with a shirt from the player or other team member they sponsor.

The presentation is made on the pitch before the start of a home game. The home game against Lincoln City was the game the Fishy was presented with theirs.

The Fishy chose a young supporter who has a disability to represent us and to receive the shirt on our behalf. So assisted by Nicko, Ray Lucas took the presentation for us after which we allowed him to keep the shirt.

Ray has asked for space to say his piece and we are pleased to publish his comments.

"Saturday's local derby against Lincoln marked a milestone for me. It was the first time I'd ever been to an end of season home fixture.

And it was one I'll never forget. I felt so honoured to be among the 6,000 plus crowd to witness Mariners legend John McDermott's last home game.

But the main reason I enjoyed the day so much occurred before the game.

Despite being an infrequent visitor to Blundell Park, I love the club passionately. Those who know me well will tell you that it takes a lot to make me lost for words, but that happened on Saturday afternoon, when before the game, I fulfilled a dream, actually setting foot (or wheels) on to the pitch)

I had my picture taken with Mariners Number 2 Stuart Watkiss, holding a signed training top, which I am pleased to say is now among one of my favorite possessions.

I want to say thank you very much to Grimsby Town FC, and Stuart Watkiss, and the Fishy website for giving me an unforgettable day.

Saturday's game against Lincoln City might have ended up a draw, but for me the Mariners will always win.

Alan Buckley saved the team from an almost certain drop into the None-League wilderness.

Next season we will be on the way up again I'm sure.

Once again thank you very much for a day I'll never forget."
