GRIMSBY scored their first league goal of the campaign and Lincoln picked up their first point of the season in a tense encounter at Sincil Bank. Peter Till gave Town the lead in the first half, only for the Imps to equalise midway through the second period with a penalty.

Town started brightly and forced new Lincoln 'keeper Rob Burch into action in the early part of the game. Peter Till finally broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a fiercely struck left foot shot.

Big name new-signing, the former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair, nearly doubled Town's advantage when he headed against his own crossbar on the hour mark. Had Sinclair scored Town's top scorer for the season would have been Own Goals!

But Lincoln fought back and were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute when Barnes brought down Newey. Lee Frecklington stepped up and sent Phil Barnes the wrong way.
