Fenton: A Miller Now |
Rotherham v Grimsby Preview
By: Alex Green
Date: 03/10/2008
WHICH of these two teams would you rather be at this moment in time? That was an easy question back in August. Don’t worry with a running track around the pitch the lack of quality will be harder to see.

Rotherham can’t afford to play at their old ground, which had been their home for over a hundred years. They have dropped through the leagues like a lead balloon and continual problems financially mean that for the second time in a few years The Millers will start on minus points. Lets face it, its hardly a brilliant resume of late yet only 5 or 6 years ago Rotherham were being held as a team in which all small teams should model themselves on. With the managerial expertise of Ronnie Moore Rotherham catapulted up to the Championship where they spent four happy years. Nowadays The Millers are just happy to exist and with a positive start to their season they will hope emulates Leeds' success and overtake us very soon.
Considering The Millers problematic state financially they are still managing to have a squad a whole ten men larger then ourselves (these do not include our loan players) Other then the larger side Rotherham’s well balanced squad can count on the experienced Micky Cummins (left) who has played over 250 games for Port Vale and former Hull, Coventry and Bristol City defender Marc Joseph. Up front they can rely on equally experienced Mark Burchill once of Hearts, Portsmouth and Celtic. But with all this experience United also rest some hopes on young starlet Jamie Green. At just 19 Green has yet to score this season but has started six league games and it is only a matter of time before the promising striker gets on the score sheet.
Reuben Reid. The former Plymouth trainee had been shipped out to countless clubs on loan before joining Brentford on a free. Rochdale, Torquay and Wycombe all tried out Reid before he settled in the capital where he started an amazing one game before shooting up the M1 to join the Millers in the Don Valley. This season has been far more stable for the English striker: 11 starts so far this season, Reid shot out of the blocks with empathic style, scoring 3 in his first 4 games of the season. Since then the striker has been silenced, only managing to pick up an extra goal in a 2-2 draw at home to Rochdale.
