Two Signings Soon

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/07/2009

GRIMSBY are expected to make two signings shortly. Former Leeds midfielder Peter Sweeney and Chester defender Paul Linwood should both sign long contracts with Town by the beginning of next week

Meanwhile two Grimsby striker targets are back in contention for a summer move to Blundell Park. Striker Warren Feeney came within a whisker of signing for Leeds, but the 28-year-old failed to agree terms, meaning he is once again available to link up with former boss Mike Newell.

Another target, former loanee Adrian Forbes, has been offered a contract by Town but is currently mulling over the implications of a move to North East Lincolnshire for his family.

Linwood is expected to sign later today, subject to a medical and terms being agreed with the Mariners. Sweeney should sign early next week.

Apart from another striker (probably Forbes or Feeney) Newell's only remaining piece of business this summer is to get a goalkeeper before the pre-season friendlies begin. The Fishy understands that Newell is considering bringing someone in on a long-term loan deal.

Postscript Both players signed for Grimsby on Friday night.
