Town Through to Final

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 18/07/2009

GRIMSBY are through to tomorrow's final of the South West Challenge Cup after an emphatic 4-1 win over Conference outfit Rushden in the semi-final today. They will face Mike Newell's former side Luton whose misdemeanours allowed Grimsby to escape relegation last season.

Grimsby scored two goals before half time through Forbes and Akpro. In between the two Town goals Rushden equalised after a mistake by new Town 'keeper Nick Colgan.

After half time and the now customary substitution of every outfield player, Grimsby scored again with trialist Nathan Arnold once again finding the net.

Nick Colgan made up for his first half error with a number of saves to keep Town's two goal margin.

The Mariners wrapped it up in injury time when Danny North added a fourth.

Town now face Luton tomorrow, then Scunthorpe and Leeds in the following two days, making it five games in five days for Mike Newell's squad - already facing fixture congestion resulting from its success!
