The Poisoned Chalice

GRIMSBY is rapidly becoming a manager's graveyard. Since the start of the millennium there have been no less than eight GTFC managers, with two caretakers who never became manager. Ironically the period before that was relatively stable with long-time boss Alan Buckley at the helm.
Of those eight only two were not sacked. Nicky Laws's contract came to an end as was not renewed (which is more or less a sacking), and Russell Slade, our one successful manager, departed to Yeovil after his contract came to an end.
Other than that all the others have failed in Grimsby's long decline from an being an established Championship club to a club expected to be relegated to non-league football.
The total compensation of the six managers who have been sacked must add up to over a million pounds.
Hopefully the next manager will be allowed a longer spell at the club than his predecessors, which may mean he actually has a chance to succeed. It will be a brave man who takes up the reins however...…
