Slade on the Short List?

GRIMSBY have narrowed their new manager to a shortlist of around six, most of whom will be interviewed this week. One of them is believed to be former manager Russell Slade, Grimsby's only successful boss of the last decade. Another is likely to be caretaker boss Neil Woods.

Who the other four is not known.

Town chairman John Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph: "There are six candidates that I have personally identified and I am sure the other board members will have their own ideas as well.

"We will be seeing them this week as a matter of urgency.

"Having six targets says a lot about the quality of the applicants we have had. They have operated at various levels of the game. Some will be well known to the fans and others not so."

Mr Fenty also stressed that the board will not be rushing into any decisions, although it's likely that an appointment will be made by the weekend.

"This is the most important decision for this football club for a number of years. We have to get it right."

Grim Rob Says If it was down to me and without knowing many of the applicants I'd give the job to Russell Slade. He's proven he has what it takes at every club he's managed. He might be unpopular for leaving when he did, but so was Alan Buckley when he came back in 1997 and look what happened next!
