Beat the Bookies: Week 18

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/11/2010

LAST week's tips were a mixed bunch! We cleaned up for the second week running on a Chelsea defeat, this time at the hands of Birmingham. The other tip, Histon to beat Luton, proved a tad optimistic - they lost 5-1!

  • Newcastle (5.5, Boylesports) v Chelsea. Can we win three weeks running on Chelsea losing? They still have key players out (to the best of my knowledge), and a trip to St James's park is never easy. Whereas it might seem a step too far to imagine they will lose yet again, the price it has to be said is very tempting! Newcastle's home record has not been great this season, but it's not that worse than Chelsea's away form. In our opinion 5.5 is too tempting to ignore.
  • West Ham (2.1, Stan James) v Wigan. Neither side are doing very well, but they key factor is Wigan's away form. It's been bad for months now, and West Ham look a decent price at better than evens. Take odds against if you can get it would be our advice.
  • Everton (1.62, Betfred) v West Brom. After a bright start WBA have really dropped away and should come second best to a resurgent Everton at Goodison.
  • Dover (3.75, Sky Bet) v Aldershot. Now that Grimsby are knocked out, I am supporting Dover in the FA Cup. With a big and vocal crowd behind them (it's a sell out) they should be good for at least a draw.
  • Charlton v Luton (7, Bet365). Charlton have a terrible record against lower league sides in the FA Cup and will be far more concerned with getting our of League One. Luton are in excellent form in the BSP and they will doubtless fill the away end for their day out. 6/1 has to be worth a punt!
