Grimsby v Luton Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 29/01/2013

GRIMSBY take on cup kings Luton Town tonight in the FA Trophy Quarter final, with the winner doubtless strong favourites to overcome Dartford/Halifax and get to Wembley. The match has an added edge because of the recent animosity between the two sides over player "acquisitions".

Luton have attempted to lure several Grimsby loan players to Kenilworth Road, although so far only Scott Neilson has joined the Hatters. Ironically Neilson can't play in tonight's game though as he has already featured in the competition for the Mariners.

Both sides are likely to make several changes for the match, with the league the main priority for both Grimsby and Luton, who still of course remain in the FA Cup after a fantastic win at Norwich at the weekend. As Bradford have shown this season however, success in big cup games does not guarantee wins in the bread and butter encounters that take place every week.

Town have no injuries or suspensions. Striker Andy Cook went off with a head injury at Cambridge but has had stitches and is back in training, so is likely to play after such a short amount of time on the pitch on Saturday. Grimsby are likely to play one or two fringe players as well to give the chance for others to recover fully from the Cambridge match.

Luton defender Simon Ainge was cup-tied for Saturday’s game, but can play in the FA Trophy. Winger Scott Neilson and full-back Greg Taylor have the opposite problem - they can play in the FA Cup but not the FA Trophy.

Grimsby thrashed Luton 4-1 back in September when the two sides met in the league at Blundell Park, but tonight's game will probably see quite different line ups to what took place that evening.
