Lady Luck Deserts Town

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/03/2013

LADY Luck deserted the Mariners as they lost successive games for the first time this season. Town dominated the first hour of the game, but failed to score the first goal.

Grimsby were the better side in the opening half. Disley, Hannah and Naylor all produced good saves from Marriott, but it ended 0-0. The Mariners then lost captain Craig Disley at half time with a hamstring injury, and Andi Thanoj came on in his place.

Mansfield opened the scoring from a free kick when Town were temporarily down to 10 men while Miller went off to have an injury treated. Rhead rose at the far post to give the Stags the lead.

Grimsby continued to play well and an equaliser looked a strong possibility until Chapman blasted in a 20-yard thunderbolt into the roof of the net with 9 mins to go to seal the points for the home side.

Town played well for most of the game but injuries decided it for the Mariners. Other results didn't go their way either so at the moment it looks like Grimsby will have to settle for a play-off place, but there's still enough games left for Grimsby to catch up with the other teams, but they can't afford many more defeats.
