Town Lose to Gulls

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 14/09/2014

TOWN crashed to their first home defeat in ten games when they were well beaten by Torquay at Blundell Park. The Gulls raced into a two goal lead at half time and then sat back and defended their goal for the second half.

To compound Town's misery they lost Jon-Paul Pitman after just ten minutes of action, and he's doubtful for Grimsby's trip to high-flying Halifax.

Duane Ofori-Acheampong put the Gulls 1-0 up with a goal early in the first half and Luke Young added a second just before the break.

Town, who had been second best in the first half, made a double substitution at half time with Mackreth and Clay coming on. The Mariners dominated the second period but the chances that fell to them were missed except a Toto Nsiala header which was brilliantly saved by Torquay keeper Martin Rice.

Grimsby will have to lick their wounds and try to improve against Halifax on Tuesday. If they don't they could well fall to their fourth defeat in five games.
