Tranmere hold Town to a Draw

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/09/2015

GRIMSBY and Tranmere drew in Friday night's game at Blundell Park. Grimsby took a first half lead after a Tranmere mistake at a corner but the Merseyside team equalised after the break when Town made a mistake. Grimsby dominated the latter period of the game but heroic defending by the visitors meant both side had to settle for a draw.

Paul Hurst made three changes from the side which drew at Chester. Josh Gowling came in for Shaun Pearson in defence, Craig Clay returned in midfield for Matt Robinson and Pittman surprisingly started in place of Padraig Amond. New loan signing Ben Tomlinson made his first Town appearance on the bench.

Pittman put Town 1-0 up with a goal from a corner, which epitomised a scrappy first half. The 'keeper failed to get to an initial effort which bounced up and hit the post and Pittman reacted quickest to bundle the ball in the net.

Tranmere equalised in the second half when Town gave the ball away in midfield, Tranmere broke and the ball was played through to substitute Blissett who clipped it over the advancing McKeown.

Town dominated the last 20 minutes and had long spells of pressure but Tranmere defended superbly and held out for a draw.
