SHAUN Pearson has rejoined Grimsby as the first summer signing ahead of the new campaign. The 32-year-old centre back left Grimsby for Wrexham in 2017 and has enjoyed four good years in Wales. However, the chance to return to Blundell Park was something the former Mariner ceased upon and he has signed a two-year deal.
Wrexham had wanted to keep Pearson for a further season but the extra year on offer at Blundell Park helped clinch the deal. Pearson has spent most of his career in non-league (with the exception of 2016-2017 in League Two with Grimsby) and initially worked with Paul Hurst at Boston United before following Hurst to Grimsby at the start of the manager's first spell at the club.
Pearson has been a big favourite with the fans in North Wales and it's a statement of intent for the Mariners to snap up one of the best defenders in the division. With one big signing made Hurst will be hoping to assemble his team over the rest of the summer, with many new faces still to come.
