The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

West Brom 0 Grimsby Town 1

By: Richard Lord
Date: 18/08/2001

THERE WAS a feeling of deja-vu amongst the travelling Grimsby away fans as they came away from the Hawthorns with a superb 1-0 victory.

The goal came from the penalty spot after Stuart Campbell was felled, and Alan Pouton held his nerve to find the back of the net in the 77th minute.

But West Brom were left to rue missed chances as Bob Taylor had earlier missed from the spot. Danny Coyne, who saved the penalty, made many more several great saves to keep the Mariners in the match, and it therefore brought about another clean sheet.

Lennie Lawrence will surely be over the moon with the result, which means 6 points taken out of 6 and yet to concede a goal this season, despite the well-documented defensive frailties at Blundell Park.

With Danny Coyne's performance this afternoon, questions are going to continue over why the Welshman isn't included in the Wales squad. Although on this form, Hughes cannot afford to constantly over-look a player in such tremendous form.
