INFLUENTIAL midfielder Alan Pouton today signed a new three year deal which will no doubt delight all Mariners fans. Pouton, whose current contract expires in the summer. would have been available on a Bosman and any clubs now interested in the Geordie will have to pay a fee.
Pouton has being in simply awesome form since his return from injury last season. In his return game he scored from the spot and has established himself as the No. 1 penalty taker, and indeed scored the winning goal from a penalty in Saturday's dramatic win over WBA.
Lennie Lawrence has spent the last few week's with the former York midfielder agreeing terms acceptable to both parties, and the deal means Pouton is the final senior player to either agree a new contract or leave the club since the end of last season.
