Stockport Report Card

DR FISHY has compiled a report card for the Grimsby Town side that drew 3-3 with Stockport County on Saturday.

Coyne: A very animated Coyne found himself with a defence that failed to mark up at set pieces, and was desperately unlucky for the 3rd goal.

Grade: B+

(Before judging the rest of the team I'd like to see who was meant to be marking who when Stockport scored... here's my opinions without having seen the goals conceded again)

John McDermott: a solid display, particularly considering that their massive striker Wilbraham chose to give Macca a real test.

Grade: B

Tony Gallimore: hit and miss performance - perhaps didn't support Campbell enough, but contributed to Town's patient passing, and was rarely caught out.

Grade: B-

David Beharall: pretty average display, but didn't look out of his depth. One or two Handyside-esque tidy touches too.

Grade: B-

Paul Groves: helped bring the ball out at the back, nearly scored with a header from a 2nd half set piece, and didn't really disappoint

Grade: B-

Menno Willems and Wayne Burnett: both these guys were inconsistent - influential and tough tackling for 10mins, then invisible for the next 10. Willems perhaps slightly better overall today, but Burnett did score, so:

Grade: B for both.

Danny Butterfield: his worst performance perhaps? Lashed a 20yard effort at goal, forcing a great save, but didn't look at all interested for long spells. Failed to offer width on the right, and was obvious choice to be replaced.

Grade: C-

Stuart Campbell: Deserves special mention for work rate, and fantastic set piece work. Offered width and supported the front men and his defence wherever he could. Also was our lone front man at Stockport corners, so had to hold ball up, and did this too

Grade: A-

Mike Jeffrey: I like Jeffrey, he's ok, but today he was TOO nice! He let the Stockport centre halves push him around. Would possibly have scored if ref had played advantage early in 2nd half. But disappointing all-round

Grade: C-

Jonny Rowan: Was lively, scored of course and was not afraid to push his marker around. Unfortunate victim of a flag-happy linesman. Grade: B+

Subs:

Bradley Allen: tried hard, looked useful, better than Jeffrey on the day!

Grade: B-

Michael Boulding: looked fantastically fast, confident, not afraid to score, and terrified Flynn into an overdue yellow card. One to watch no doubt.

Grade: A-

Marlon Broomes: only came on to shore up defence, and rest Rowan. Not on long enough for a grade, but did manage to get a talking to from the ref, I think for a shoving contest with Roget at an opposition corner.
