Big Cup Game for Town's Youth Team

Date: 13/01/2002

GRIMSBY TOWN'S Youth Team face their biggest game of the season so far when Neil Woods' men play Kidderminster away in the last 32 of the FA Youth Cup tomorrow night.

Ironically the success of the young Mariners comes at a time when the board are about to implement major cuts in the youth team area as part of a package of drastic measures to reduce the operating costs of the club.

The match, which kicks off at 7pm at Kidderminster's Aggborough Stadium, is in the 4th Round of the FA Youth Cup, and sees the two teams meet for only the second time in the competition. The last occasion they played was in the 1986/87 1st Round of the Youth Cup when the Mariners trounced the Harriers 5-0.

In the last round the Mariners beat Peterborough in front of a crowd of 300 people at Blundell Park, with prolific marksman Darren Mansaram heading home the winner of a thrilling 3-2 victory.
