Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

"Gorgeous Georges" Back!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 28/01/2003

GEORGES Santos looks set to rejoin the squad at Portsmouth on Saturday after being out with a hamstring injury since the first FA Cup game with Burnley on January 4.

He will be joined by John McDermott and Tony Gallimore who are also expected to be back but Barnard, who suffered an ankle injury on Saturday, may be doubtful after undergoing X-Rays.

"It's quite badly bruised so we sent him for an x-ray just as a precaution. He's going to be a concern for Saturday," said Paul Groves to the Grimsby Telegraph.

Town face Portsmouth (away), Stoke (home) Gillingham and Ipswich (both away) in February and Groves needs his experienced players back if we are to gain any points from those fixtures.

"George (Santos) has trained" said Groves. "And he's done the full lot. Hopefully this week it will be a case of building him up and trying to get him available for the weekend. George does well in the air in both boxes and his athleticism is a big help as well. He has a presence and he's been missed."

"But if you miss five of your senior players - all of whom would probably have played - then it's going to be tough. We need those types of players back."
