"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

Beyond the Sea - Grimsby @ Blundell Park

From:From the Terrace.

Grimsby 1-0 Blades (Match Report)

Dire, dire, dire. An absolute abomination of a performance.

A day out in Grimsby (or to be precise Cleethorpes) in the throes of a typical English winter has the potential to be a miserable affair. Generally it’ll turn out to be a cold, drab affair as the wind whips in off the North Sea and you huddle in their tiny ground which offers little protection from the full brunt of the sea squalls.

For once though we managed to escape all that as our visit coincided neatly with the nicest day of the year so far and the travelling fans arrived to brilliant sunshine. OK so a gust of wind every now and again reminded you that there is still a way to go before summer reaches us but it was enough to lift the most hardened of spirits.

Suddenly things didn’t look so bad. Grimsby always seems to be one of the favourite Blades days out and this was no exception - with a bit of hope raised by the goal fest of last weekend a capacity away following was guaranteed. A short trip over, some top notch scran from one of the surrounding chippies, the Leaking Boot absolutely swarming with Blades, sunshine and song. Things were going great.

Unfortunately for all concerned this ended sometime around three o’clock as United conspired to provide possibly the worst display of the season (and when you consider how badly we have played this term that is really going some) and left most fans wishing they had headed fort he sea front or stayed in the pub rather than making their way to Blundell Park.

Crocus Town

From: ITV Digital's Sport First.

"Grimsby Town should be renamed Crocus Town as every spring they rise from the ground and avoid relegation."

Hawaii Five-O

From awayguide.net.

Blundell Park is actually located in Cleethorpes not Grimsby. Away fans are seated in the Osmond Stand, Its not the newest of stands, but it does have a bar. Choice is not the bars strong point as the only alcohol.. is lager, served only pints. It also has a small choice of snacks and pies and whilst there are two serving area the police won't let you move from one to the other with beer.

The stand itself has seen much better days and almost every seat either has a view obscured by a low roof or is behind one of several supporting pillars, alternatively seats in front of the pillars are not covered by the roof leaving the occupants to feel the full force of the elements. Like Maine Rd, Blundell Park has a temporary "Gene Kelly" stand (a group of additional uncovered seating for those "Singing In The Rain"), whilst slight more sheltered than Maine Road it is still not a great place to be on a wet night.

Grimsby are noted for their inflatable fishes and extreme silliness. Trouble is no longer common.
Grimsby have been responsible for numerous silly chants over the years, including a number of Christmas Carols and even renditions of the Hawaii Five-O theme music (complete with actions). Away fans gain no credit for 'Sing when your fishing' which is sung by Grimsby themselves or other Fish related humour (Who ate all the Fish ?). Fully aware of visitors fondness to their fish and chips the locals respond to 'You're s*** and you stink of fish' with 'We p*** on the fish and chips'.
