Good Guys Or Rats?

A unanimous agreement by all the 22 First Division clubs last April was that the promoted clubs would make payments totalling £100,000 to each of the 3 relegated clubs: Grimsby Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton.
But it is becoming somewhat doubtful that any of the three clubs will receive what is in effect 'parachute' money.
Wolves, Leicester and Portsmouth the three clubs promoted to the premiership, have not been forthcoming with the payments and as there is no agreed procedure for the cash to be handed over, the worry is that the payments could be delayed for a very long time or not made at all.
Regardless of the agreement, the Football League has no power over clubs in the premier league, and the clubs concerned could take the stand that agreements made when in the football league, are not enforceable on clubs in the premier.
The Mariners were relying on the payment to fulfil the commitments they made in regard to their current financial plan for their second division campaign this season.
It is not clear if the loss of this money will affect the war chest allocated to Paul Groves
