DUTCH striker Laurens Ten Heuvel has revealed he would jump at the opportunity to sign for Grimsby. The out-of-favour Blade has been placed on the transfer list by the Yorkshire club, and scored in his first outing for the Mariners in a week-long trial.

"Of course I would like to come to Grimsby," Heuvel told Mariners Net. "This is a good club, they play good football and I would like to join them.

"Sheffield United put me on the transfer list, so I don't know what is going to happen. I want to be involved again. I just want to play and I'll see what happens at Grimsby."

Laurens Ten Heuvel has to compete for a contract with Town's second trialist, former Ajax forward Clyde Wijnhard, who arrives on Monday for Paul Groves to assess his form and fitness.

Whereas a week ago the prospects of Grimsby signing a new frontman before the start of the season looked unlikely, suddenly there are two players hoping for a deal to be put in front of them. Whether cash-strapped Grimsby can meet either player's wage expectations is another matter...
