Wayne Burnett

Playmaking midfielder who joined the club half way through the succesful 97/98 "Wembley" season and helped give the side the fillip required to propel it towards the Twin Towers.

Initially signed on loan, his debut was a 4-1 away defeat to Bristol City but Burnett clearly had talent and struck up a good partnership with Paul Groves thus prompting a permanent £100,000 move from Huddersfield.

And basically that`s it. Burnett spent another 4 years or so at Town mostly in the treatment room although did contribute the odd good performance and at one point seemed to find his feet under Lennie Lawrence.

Never found a place in football again after leaving the Mariners although this was partly due to the unfortunate illness of his daughter.
