Parky Leaves!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/06/2006

ANDY Parkinson has joined Town's League Two rivals Notts County on a Bosman after his two year contract at Blundell Park had expired. The 27-year-old winger spent two loan spells at Meadow Lane whilst at Tranmere, before joining up with new manager Russell Slade at Grimsby.

Parkinson was a hard-working player who finished top scorer in his first season at the club, but frequently would lose the ball or give it away, resulting in him being a target for the boo boys.

Parky is the third first team regular to look for pastures new, joining Steve Mildenhall and Rob Jones who have both signed for new clubs in recent days. Star striker Michael Reddy also attracted some interest last season, but as things stand is set to continue at Grimsby next season unless another club can find around £300K for the Irishman.

There has also been some speculation in the Somerset press that new Yeovil manager Russell Slade is considering bringing out of contract Town left back Tom Newey to Huish Park, although Newey, being just 23, would command a fee and Town would have to agree to the move.

New Grimsby manager Graham Rodger is yet to sign any new players, although several current squad members including club captain Justin Whittle and veteran full back Gary Croft have put pen to paper on new deals.

The new Town boss is however working behind the scenes trying to bring in new faces. "I've got a couple of key players to replace and I'm working very hard to do that," said Rodger. "I've made a couple of enquiries and they've spoken to their respective managers, but I'm in no real rush."
