FORMER Mariner John McDermott has applied for the managerial vacancy at Lincolnshire rivals Boston United. The Pilgrims, who were relegated to the Conference this season, finally parted company with Steve Evans last week, and for Macca it is the ideal chance to start in management.

Grimsby's record appearance holder told Mariners Net "I am applying for the Boston job - there's nothing to lose.

"I may not have any experience but have my coaching badges up to UEFA 'A' and am keen to stay in football.

"My playing days at Town may be over now but I still want to stay in the game."

It would be useful experience for Macca, who is bound to be linked with a return to Grimsby when Alan Buckley eventually departs from Blundell Park.

  • The club expect to complete two more signings in the next few days. A new striker and a right back are likely to be high on Alan Buckley's wanted list, as well as more defensive cover. Alan Buckley is also known to be looking to secure the loan signing of Stoke striker Martin Paterson.

  • The new home shirt is now available in the club shop or bought online, which sees a return to Grimsby's famous black and white stripes. A new away shirt will also be launched on June 15th.
