Seems the football league have voted to allow Premier League B Teams into the JPT. The Football league executive is now finalising plans. Almost all the league teams voted in favour.

Horrible idea in my opinion.

I thought maybe league teams could their B teams in to the Trophy and then we could put our B team in the FA Vase.

B's are good.

I don't like the idea but if in seven months time we're playing a b team in that competition then great, we've escaped this cesspit

What a terrible idea, is that clown Greg Dyke responsible? Why would the bottom two divisions vote for this? I take it the B teams can't qualify for Wembley?

Dunno. It's crap isn't it?

Arsenal B v Chelsea B in the final would be so pointless.

Getting kicked to bits by Accrington's overweight, hard as nails 3rd choice centre back (cos even lower league dross rest their players in most rounds) will not help some diminutive little 17 year old winger progress his career and win the Word Cup for England.

Money. If you're a little club like Morecambe or Cheltenham then being drawn at home against Man City or Chelsea (even though it's the reserves and kids) is going to be a bit of a payday

Yes, same as the league cup really. Even though the premier league clubs don't put a strong team out it's still an occasion for the smaller club

Terrible idea, makes the tournament utterly worthless and it wasn't exactly everyone's top priority before.

It was at least a chance for lower league players to maybe get to Wembley. If Man City B & Chelsea B get there every year then even that's gone.

The idea was mooted around 9 months ago as a watered-down version of Dyke's original "League Three" proposal: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/10859378/Football-League-draws-up-plan-for-Premier-League-B-teams-to-enter-Johnstones-Paint-Trophy.html

A quick google search turns up about 15 occurrences on chat forums today but nothing that could be called a reliable source.  So has it progressed beyond the proposals from last May? Who knows.

There was also discussion about that day’s Football League (FL) meeting which was understood to have authorised the FL executive to finalise proposals to allow Premier League ‘B’ teams to enter the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, with AFC Wimbledon being the only League Two club to vote against. It was agreed that Kris Stewart would talk with other trusts to help us decide whether this is something for the Dons Trust to follow up.

What happens if Man. City A & B teams say reach the final, or draw each other even?

Another tin pot idea from clueless idiots running our game.

Just imagine if that Auto Windscreens semi V Burnley had been against the Stoke Youth team. If the match that took GTFC through to Wembley for the first time ever was against a bunch of 17 year olds on £10k a week and a handful of African players parachuted in to give them a run out as they hadn't been near a first team since for 3 years.

Absolutely hideous.

I honestly, and I say this with complete and utter sincerity, hope that Greg Dyke and all those who have pushed this through die a horrible, horrible death sometime soon. Hopefully over the summer so we've something to keep us entertained.

I don't get the logic at all. Even if a 'B' team get to the final, they'll have played what - 5, 6 games over the course of a few months. Who or what does that benefit? How is that better than going out on loan, when even if it's only for a month the player will play the same amount of games.

Cos they have B teams in Spain and Spain won the World Cup a few years ago. Duh!

The Premier League clubs really want this stupid B team thing don't they. I bet the league clubs were told accept this or we'll send less cash down the pyramid.

It's not about the England team as if it was clubs would be cutting back on foreign players and we would have winter breaks, it's all because Man Utd and Chelsea want to employ foreigners not on there books so they can develop a talented 17 year old from Senegal rather than Salford.

I just wish we were good enough so I could boycott the competition.

Why don't all Prem  B teams play each over in a league every week ?

Or

As the championship clubs are not in the JPT,

Have a cup competition with them.

The League clubs who voted for this obviously don't realise it is just the first step on a slippery slope. They will bed this in for a season or two then continue their push for 'B' teams in the League proper (whether extended or not) and this will give them leverage. They'll say, look how the competition has improved with some large attendances which are good for the lower league clubs so obviously inclusion of 'B' teams would be a boon in the League as well.

Surely the League clubs voting for this must realise that the fornicators running the game (including the buffoon Dyke and his flunkies) simply don't give the tiniest of tosses about the lower league clubs and will do anything they can to give the big teams whatever they want?

In the event that we manage to get ourselves promoted back into the League, I think I'll make a point of refusing to attend matches against 'B' teams should they be admitted to the League or any of the cup competitions.

This may be a silly question but how will they define a B team player? Is it a player who has never played for the first team?

Otherwise, if there is no definite B team league that qualifies players, what is to stop a team slipping in some first teamers?

How long has the Premier League been running now? Not far off the 24 years mentioned here......

"..the Devil's representative, Mephistopheles, appears. He makes a bargain with Faust: Mephistopheles will serve Faust with his magic powers for a set number of years, but at the end of the term, the Devil will claim Faust's soul, and Faust will be eternally damned. The term usually stipulated in the early tales is 24 years; one year for each of the hours in a day"

Barcelona "B" play in front of 1500 folk if they're lucky.

None of the first team squad play in the "B" side, even coming back from injury, so the fans are supporting a wholly different team from the first team, and that's why it doesn't work, there's an absolute disconnect to anything to do with Messi et al. Probably extended family and friends watching the games.

Yes but the youngsters need to be given a chance. We may have players like Stones, Shaw, Clyne, Barkley, Sterling, Wilshere, Kane, Ibe to name a few off the top of my head. But there are almost certainly 30-40 young English players who currently cannot get a sniff of first team action that after a midweek cup game against Carlisle will become world class.

The whole thing stinks. Two of the most vocal supporters of the B team idea were Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez. I'm not entirely convinced that the future of the England team is their top concern. This whole concept was met with fury when it was first mentioned. The fact that it still seems to be around, albeit in a watered down form, should be taken very seriously.

all these huge stadiums in the premiership that fill up with tens of thousands of fans for a 3pm kick-off...why can't the B teams play before the main event...sort of like the cartoon before a film. Then at the end of the season, the top 5 B teams get an additional 3 points for the A team's title charge. B teams must be made up of development squad players

edit...doesn't solve the superior opposition problem does it...oh well

72,000 at Wembley today for the final. 2nd best attended game in Europe. It clearly means something to the fans. It would be a disgrace if B teams were allowed in.
