Hurst on TV now saying Town WILL NOT win the league.  Way to go Paul, thats how you install confidence in your team

Hurst was worrying about the height in Cheltenham's team the other day so he's probably stuck Toto in at right-back because he's taller than Tait

felicitations sakes. Half this board have been saying we won't win the league since August and the very same people are now slating Hurst for saying it in April. What do you want him to say?

I want him to say we're going to keep trying to win automatic promotion until it's mathematically impossible. I don't want him to entertain thoughts of settling for second best.

Because winning tonight, winning our games in hand and then gaining 2 more points than FGR and Cheltenham over the rest of the season is significantly more likely than us signing the best footballer in the World.

Of course the odds aren't in our favour for automatic promotion, but it's certainly not impossible at this stage and as such he shouldn't be saying we can't do it. It's so pessimistic.

PH is absolutely right.

We are unlikely to win the league, so say so.Why put pressure on himself and team?

What he tells his players will be different.

Also, maybe he's just playing it down to take the pressure off. We all know this is must win.

He doesn't have to say "YEAH WE'RE GOING TO WIN THE LEAGUE", he just needs to go "it's unlikely, but we'll keep trying until it's impossible". Telling everyone publicly he doesn't think we'll win the league is so uninspiring.

I'd like to see a super slow mo replay. Their player may have hit Pearson's arm into the ball, but i might just be seeing things.

We are absolutely shocking at clearing our lines in defence so far.

Clearances out of defence have been very poor, but the midfield and strikers aren't holding the ball up at all. They're comfortably bossing our midfield so far.

I don't understand the lack of trust in Tait, who has been very good all season, just to put a square peg in a round hole. Tait is much more composed, better technically and positionally, on the deck, passing, supporting attacks, crossing....but no....Toto for superior height. Defensive, tentative, speculative, unconfident. What a message to give to Tait and the supporters, especially coupled with the remarks about not believing we can win the title prior to the game. What kind of ethos is this?! Think like a winner man!!!!

I understand setting up to neutralise the opposition's strengths, but Hurst nearly always takes it too far and ends up weakening our own team instead.

Well so far for my money....Monkhouse picked but obviously not fit...we are not even kicking the goal kicks towards him ....Nsiala is getting      pushed up for heading goal kicks and then caught out of position....midfield looking weak....no attacking threat...

Tiny bit of possession ends as Toto has another brain fart and aimlessly clips it up in the air to be easily recovered by the opposition.

We've got to stop giving away lots of cheap free kicks/corners.  They've got some big units in their team.  Only one winner when we lump it forward...

F***ing cheats. That all you can say. Either that, or incompetent refereeing, because Pearson never touched him and that's never a free kick. Pell overran it and dived.

I've said a couple of times that Cheltenham are no better than us. May have to re-appraise that because we are shocking at the moment. Ref equally as shocking and they invariably go against us, these dodgy decisions.

No way is McKeown to blame. It went over the wall and in because Monkhouse decided to watch it flying over his head instead of jumping.

We're shite because we're all over the place. Never seen us play well with Toto as a full back. Defenders have no idea what they're doing. Put Tait on, regain balance and please do something Monkhouse.

Well looks like we are just going to roll over and not even have a go.

Shite negative football , i mean how on earth does bob monkhouse walk straight into the team when we have a young lad on the bench from swindon and from what i have seen has more potential than anyone else on the pitch..

Infact why even bring him on loan if your not gonna play him intercourse sake..

Feel sorry for our travelling fans spending their hard earned on this.

No energy, no cohesion, no confidence, no pace, not a clue.

But I'm not writing Town off yet..

I said that Grimsby would be found out at Forest Green and I still stand by that statement. We were second best that night and nicked a goal.
Someone on the away coach had overheard me and ranted at me before we set off home talking as if Grimsby Town were the best team since sliced bread.
Well now we are getting found out... found out to be a mile and a half behind the best two teams in this division. There is a long way to go to be good enough for the football league I am afraid.
We have passionate and loyal fans following an average and sometimes poor team that cannot seem to go that extra mile to get us our much desired promotion.
It is easy for people to blame the manager but that is unfair. The truth of the matter is, we just don't have enough money to buy good enough players to compete. Even at this lowly level!
It is incredibly sad with the history we have behind us!

We are absolutely dire in midfield and upfront. Hoban is a useless lump, and Disley and Nolan are positionally all over the place. Arnold and Monkhouse both may as well not be on the pitch for all they've contributed this half.

Problem is we almost need to concede because while it's 0-0 Hurst thinks the plan is working, no matter how under the cosh we are. Another H/T boll*cking, then find out if we really want it.

We might as well get Tait and Stewart (for Toto and Monkhouse) on and give it a go.  A draw's about as useful as a defeat so have a go at them and if we end up losing, it's no big deal and it keeps Cheltenham out of the play-offs.

Yeah we've been excrement. Since the goal we've improved, dont know how hoban missed, ref dire, thats standard. We are limping into the play offs, need a big big big lift 2nd half, i dont see it, especially not on that sorry excuse of a surface. fA should ban Pell for being a cheat

Well that was dreadful. Looked like we hadn't played with each other before. Couldn't string 2 passes together, couldn't win a tackle, couldn't take a decent touch of the ball. Is corro still on?

Why do we always wait until we are behind before we start to have a go? It's got to be the will of the manager as it happens so often. Keep it tight lads and see if we can nick a goal at the end.

I think our best chance is to throw this game by a few goals, its obvious that we cant compete with Cheltenham. Hope they go on to win the league cos I fancy our chances against forest green more than these in the play offs.. Forest green win the league and we're bolloxed!

Think I'd bring on East and Stewart - for Monky & Arnold - and go 4-3-3 second half.

Forget width on this pitch. 4-3-3 Launch it and extra man in midfield pick up the second balls. Try and play in their final third..

I cant think of one Cheltenham player that's good enough for our squad let alone the first team!
And they've been better than us since the first game of the season
How on earth cant you blame our manager for that?!
They were supposed to be shite. They are shite, just far better than us

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Sorry but play a proper winger not an old man who is past it quite clearly.

Nsiala playing right back..

Monkhouse walks in on the back of what ?

arnold been anoymous again and happening far to often for my liking.

Just a few small points which could do with an answer , no tempo no energy but what will be the excuse this time ?

Second half now will show if anything what desire we have because i cant stand a monday morning chestnut read in the telegraph from disley or pearson saying we wont give up , i have heard it six seasons running with nowt to show for it apart from a tinpot cup final.

The wall didn't jump because Pell was stood over the ball as well and ony hits low free kicks so thye will of been told not to jump if he is there.

We didn't look good again untill we started attack after the goal.

Toto at RB isn't working.

Monkhouse has practically been playing left back

Nolan one of the few briht tlights so far.

That pitch is a disgrace, theres a ploughed field at the back of my house with less holes and bumps in it

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

ffs Pell had already dummied the free kick and it was obvious the other player was going to hit it. There is absolutely no excuse for not jumping, the goal is entirely on Monkhouse for letting it sail over his bonce.

Yes but he is still stood behing Dayton, nothing stopping Dayton jumping over the ball and Pell hitting it, its a nice clever system.

I want to see hUrst have the sheer balls to go after this game and change the set up for a more attacking emphasis. We've got f**k all to lose now. I want to see Stewart pretty quickly if Arnold or Monkhouse don't get their f***ing finger out after 10 minutes. Ditto Hoban who is starting wear a bit thin now. When is he going to justify his selection after 8 games with a goal? Bogle get ready. We need to deliver something RIGHT NOW.

If only Parslow wasn't on already, Cheltenham could bring him on to close out the game at 2-1, mess up and concede two late goals to us.  2-3, job done

Just fookin' hopeless, I really am struggling to stay with this game I once loved, yards offside goal last week, a ref blowing against us every 30 seconds, players deliberately treading on our players, a pen turned down....how stupidly and dismally depressing this whole thing is.

We haven't been well served by refs in the last 12 months - especially the one who didn't want to spoil the game...if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be on BT Sport tonight.

Every Conference team gets a bonus of £10-20k when we play against them because of our away following - maybe they want us to stay down and keep paying their wages.  Conspiracy theory time!

Gowling has the ball in a brilliant attacking position and instead of passing it and keeping possession, HOOFS ANOTHER AIMLESS BALL straight to an opponent.

We don't deserve anything from this.  No attacking intent.

Gowling may as well have been sat on my settee with me for that one FFS

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

At least now we can stop all the 'if we win every game' stuff.

Beaten twice by this lot.  They deserve to go up.

We don't though we still have a chance.

And why the fook was Holman allowed to run all that way and then they have unmarked players at the back post and in the centre circle. Fooking useless.

Forget anything that's happened in the match, team selection, passion, the referee etc.

Just one question to Paul Hurst.

So Paul after five years in charge, you're playing against the league leaders who are not a great side. Why is your primary attacking tactic to launch the ball wide to a 35 year old statue on the left and a centre half playing out of position on the right?

Five years and this is all he's got after all this time. FFS!! And some people back this guy up. He is just not good enough and definitely not getting the best out of this squad with his tactics and team selections.

Thank you to all our fans that travelled tonight. Hats off to every one of you.

Embarrassing getting dicked at a team who are top after one season and  look like going straight back up and we are looking shambolic holding onto a playoff place six years into paul hursts go at it.

Answers please mr hurst but then again you will just cover it up with your same old post match boring deluded interview.

What's the point in signing Stewart if you're not even going to play him in a game like this when you've got a geriatric left midfielder on who only looks half fit instead. Hurst's performance in the transfer and loan market since Christmas has ruined this season for us. That and his awful team selection and tactics.

Spot on,we are such an easy team to beat if other managers do their homework.

if we hoof it forward again I wonder if the big guy that won the last 45 headers might miss one.
Nope. He got it again.

We've been totally shown up as utterly second best, with several players failing to contribute anything at all. Hurst, more than anyone else, has been shown to be absolutely lacking in what it takes to be a winner. Pathetic. Again.

Can't be arsed t go through the multitude of problems that we witnessed tonight so I'd like to apologise to Jordan Stewart for thinking he was joining a proper professional club and that he may somehow happen across some pitch action.

No Jordan, today and everyday is April the 1st under the weird, hapless and possibly mentally-breaking down Paul Hurst.

Weird, weird, WEIRD managing.

Spineless weak as urine rubbish tonight from every single Town player.  Outplayed and outfought in every single department tonight.  The belly of our team is as soft as a newborn kitten.  You don't need to be a managerial genius to suss us out.  Spineless all over the park and yet we still try to knock the ball long at every single opportunity.

Fook me. Parslow is playing like Bobby Moore tonight.

How to win this league?  Just one skillful weak player allowed (set piece/free kick specialist).  Assemble a team of experienced workman like cloggers in midfield.  Have one or ideally two 6ft targetmen up front and kick your way out of this league.  Focus on organisation, fitness, set-pieces, gamesmanship and more fitness.

What a waste of everyone's time signing Stewart was Paul Hurst, especially the player himself.

Wouldn't be surprised. When was the last time we actually played cohesively and looked comfortably in control of a game? Yeah before Macclesfield we'd won a few on the bounce, but we'd not exactly been firing on all cylinders.

Absolute tripe. No idea. Substitutions, well? I know were are 3-1 down two minutes to go lets swop the left backs like for like. I'm afraid we are losing it big style.

Oh brilliant, the post-match interview (if it even happens) will be conducted by Radio Gloustershire. Just like after the Halifax shitshow he'll get off easy with a load of generic contextless questions.

That that sort of thing is not what you want to see in the game and he's going to have a word with Wright about it.

😂 😂 😂

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

January and February were dismal, depressing months due to some insipid signings and Hursts further decline into uninspiring and downright negative interviews, add in a smattering of ludicrous and uncalled for non-Chairman meddling and this is how it has all manifested itself...feels like the team has had a slow puncture since the turn of the year. Nothing Hurst can say will give me any sort of confidence in him anymore,

Stewart and Henderson are big standout candidates in this seasons list of GTFC Oddities but where on Earth is Straker???? What in the name of sanity are we doing signing THREE players on loan only to leave them out of the seasons proceedings completely?

My last post referred to why Parslow appears to be a good player but the Fishy put wrong quote in the box and has told me I cant edit it as I did not do the post
But on another note- outplayed out reffed and out thought, hope Hurst is gone at the end of the season.

Luckily - I forgot this game was on tonight - but it looks like we lost again (so the pain is instant rather than prolonged).
Still - we can make the play offs and Grimsby management need to train / instil confidence in  the players we have, to win the important games from now on.
Looks like we do not know what the best team is again - after it being 'mucked about' so much.

I'd have laughed any other time, I'm a big Airplane! Fan. Too busy dealing with my own disaster movie though, a 90 minute horror, filmed live and shown on April 1st, I hung on hoping for a twist in the final reel.

Lets be honest things are turning out quite bad and this was since the halifax game.

Slating the fans and calling them spoilt
Toto having a go at the fans and vice versa well allegedly
The tewwet from bogle

I seriously think he is losing the dressing room maybe not all the players like diz, pearson and macca...but i think some of the others are not happy.

I cant see us winning rhe trophy or getting promoted and i think the fans will turn on hurst putting pressure on ph.

Every Conference team gets a bonus of £10-20k when we play against them because of our away following - maybe they want us to stay down and keep paying their wages.  Conspiracy theory time!
