How many of our current squad will end up at Shrewsbury?  Like many managers, Hurst does like to utilise his former players - as occurred last time he left bP.

I could see Cartwright and/or Andrews maybe going there on loan.

Hurst is only head coach at Shrewsbury as they have a head of recruitment so how much input he has in transfers is debatable.

I’d say there will be a couple on his radar and I’d be shocked if HC isn’t one of them.

Glennon going there wouldn’t surprise me either. As mentioned above, Andrews is a good shout to end up on loan there too.

I'd say, knowing Hurst like we do:
Clifton.
Eisa.
Green.
Maher.
And, with his shrews connection, possibly Pyke.

No he isn’t and I very much doubt Hurst will take anyone from town, have we got a player of L1 standard? Maybe a fully fit Thompson and Rose could be useful at that level at a push.

I think the challenge Clifton has in League One is having to find a way to compensate for technical shortcomings than expose him occasionally at our level, in a division where his outstanding physical attributes are that bit less outstanding.

Slightly different example, but I think there’s some similarity in how Michael Boulding’s exceptional pace in the second tier was merely slightly above average in the Prem, where he simply didn’t have the technical qualities to break through into the Aston Villa team, save for some brief appearances in the Intertoto Cup (where he did at least score a goal tbf).

The gap’s not as big for Harry, but I do think it would be a big step for him all the same. Maybe he might shine with better players around him, but if he does get a call from Shropshire, he’s got a question or two to answer about his ability to play at that level.

I fear for Hurst and Shrewsbury -'us shape' is past it's useable life , good for NL and 1 off games but think the game has moved on , hope I'm wrong and they do well but Shrewsbury are seemingly on their arce with little resource or quality amongst a league that has plenty of both .

Genuinely hope  Hurst once again proves doubters wrong , as like many of the players gone/going over the last year or 2 he was a hero for what he achieved here .

Hurst seriously needs to improve his teams form going into next season, he finished this season with three losses and two draws in the last five games.

Not quite the same, but after not playing Dean Henderson once while at Grimsby, he then signed him for Shrewsbury and played him all the time.

I'd be surprised if Maher went there, he wasn't a certain pick in 22/23 for example, Hurst mostly preferred smith.

Is Maher one of those who is suddenly becoming a better player the instant he leaves? He did well enough at times during his first season, but hasn't been any better than the other defenders this season. A little disappointing overall, as he came with rave reviews when he signed. Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up back in the Conference.

In general, players who are released after a struggle against relegation don't tend to go on to bigger and better things, though there are obviously some exceptions to the rule.

Think reading through the respective threads posted in the past couple of days there is pretty much support for every player who is leaving from someone and I keep seeing that Hurst will be after players released, Eisa & Maher, or contract extensions, Clifton. Think we forget that we came fourth from bottom and genuinely played decent football in less than 20% of our games and that’s maybe being a little generous.

Not watched the interview on DN35 yet but understand Artell confirmed there will be ten to twelve guys coming in which is what we require and of this number I would say seven must be good enough for the starting line up.

Not true. Maher was injured at the start of the season. He missed the first 7 league games and then was on the bench for a couple. He then started 30 of the final 37 league games.

Smith started all 9 of those games at the start of the season. After that he only started 25 out of the 37 remaining fixtures.

So actual Maher was picked more often once he was fit at the end of September.

I think Maher out of all the one's released will likely stay in league 2 and probably do really well . I think he's a decent player , a solid allrounder . It will be like Morris at Newport , who's done well and was a good player ; sometimes players are just not the right fit or it's the wrong time -- i do think Maher has the capability , more than the other CB's to play 'Artell ball' but we would effectively have had no wiggle room on signing central defenders if he had stayed on I doubt ,now we can bring in 1 (2 if he see's Mularkey as a RB?) .

I disagree. Every time Maher came up against a striker with pace, he struggled. If I remember correctly, he was particularly poor against Walsall, like a rabbit in the headlights. Just easily outpaced at this level.

Worth remembering that Maher and Green were Halifax's best two players in a season when they finished above us.

Pete Wild was their manager, so maybe Maher will end up at Barrow. They tailed off badly and missed out on the play-offs when they looked one of the best sides in the division when visiting BP.

And also impressed in League One with Shrews and Chesterfield respectively in the interim year between Town and Ipswich, their trajectories were normal.

I'd say the player most likely to link up with Hurst is indeed Andy Smith.  Signed a deal until 2026 a few months back with Hull but can see him going out on loan again.
