Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Tap and Spile Pub

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 15/07/2000

Tap & Spile

Tap
Galli-O-Meter: 4

Found just behind Freshney Place car park in Grimsby town centre.

Many many fine ales, always being rotated, guested and pulled. This is the Tap. A fine place to go for a chat and a bevvy and usually quiet enough for a darn good chin-wag.

Occasional guest bands as well - I have had the honour of hearing the theme from Top Gun recreated live for me and this was the cue for mucho drunken debate about the homoerotic elements of said film. In the style of the Quent.

Si Wilson

The comfortable, friendly, cosy, affordable old pubs of our nation are being mercilessly warped into 'bars' with stupid names, where you stand precious little chance of sitting down, being able to acknowledge other human beings, or getting much change from a tenner for three or four diminutive bottles of pissy lager.

If you seek refuge from such barbarity, then the Tap is just the place.

Quiet, affable and civilised, with a great range of distinctly quaffable beverages, the Tap & Spile offers sweet sanctuary to all those whose spirits are left bruised and broken by the worst excesses of modern life. NB: Don't go when 'Rodge Plays Rod'.
