Night of Passion

News From 20th July 2000

Ivano

A big crowd is expected tomorrow night for the biggest friendly in recent years to take place at Blundell Park. Over 1,000 Dundee fans alone are expected to make the trip to Grimsby which represents great value at just £5.00 for adults, with some of that money going to local worthy charities.

Fans of both Dundee and Grimsby have had a lot of news to digest in the last few weeks and the return of former hero Ivano Bonetti to Cleethorpes is a reminder to all Town fans of the club's potential, a big topic (to say the least) in recent days.

The evening also presents an opportunity of our Scottish friends to celebrate their new manager and signings for the first time in front of a big and passionate audience.

I am sure that for some time feelings for both sets of fans has never ran higher than in the last few days. For the home fans tomorrow represents their first opportunity to congregate in one area since last Thursday's decision by North East Lincolnshire Council to block the club's plans for a new ground. It also presents a welcome to the most memorable character to enter our club in recent years, only to leave in such tragic circumstances.

From the very welcome comments in the petition, message board and rants by Dundee fans, and indeed by those of the supporters of other clubs, the much maligned town of Grimsby need only to read these kind messages and see a hint of what lies ahead if we keep focussed. The dark days endured in Dundee in recent years and their fans' own struggles and ultimately successful battles with their civic leaders I am confident will one day be repeated in Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

Friday will be a night of passion at Blundell Park whatever the score!
