Adam Buckley

In the Grimsby Evening Telegraph 13th Jan 2000 we have letters about GTFC. One person describing himself as a passionate supporter, gets the top spot, he states that Adam Buckley "is without a doubt one of the best crossers of a dead ball he has seen at Blundell Park" What rubbish, he can't have seen much football or many town players. The position on Adam Buckley is that he could change his name to Adam Pele - Keane - Rivaldo or whatever and he would still get booed! It is not his name but the lack of competence at this level that is causing the trouble.

The fans are not calling for new signings only for the best use of what we have. Danny Butterfield has played this season and has developed into a very capable player, his reward he gets dropped! We have Bradley Allen a goal scorer, the finished article. He has the skill, knowledge, speed and the commitment, combined with Jack Lester we would have a pair "up front" that would worry every defence in the league. But what of Bradley, the subs bench! We also have David Smith and Kingsley Black, both experienced, skilful players but no they are not in favour, both kept out by Adam "that's my boy" Buckley, a youngster who does not show any potential for division 1 football now, or in the foreseeable future.

The Bolton game saw Ben Chapman in action, and very impressive too! He did not get booed, in fact he got a great deal of applause from the crowd and a good deal of appreciation of his days work when he went off the field.

My final point, Allen, Lester and Lee Ashcroft together! Ashcroft slotting in to the space vacated by young Adam. I feel with this combination we would have more strength, skill, and experience in the side to avoid the drop to division 2. This is a situation for these qualities, Not inexperienced youths.
