Bradford Friendly Possible

News from 31st July 2000

Blundell Park

Town have pencilled into their hectic pre-season schedule a friendly against Premiership side and Yorkshire rivals Bradford City. The match depends upon the Bantams not progressing in the Inter Toto cub, the competition which allows less successful clubs to enter Europe via the back door.

City face Russian side FC Zenit St Petersburg in the second leg of their Intertoto Cup semi final on Wednesday night trailing 1-0 from the first leg at Valley Parade. If the Yorkshire club fail to win and go into the Inter Toto Final they will play the Mariners in a friendly on Wednesday August 8 at Blundell Park (7.45pm).

Town have a hectic pre-season schedule as it is. The Mariners play Luton tonight, Sleaford in a Lincs Cup game on Thursday, and then Scunthorpe away on Saturday.

This season the Bantams face a second successive season in the Premiership after surviving the dreaded drop to the Nationwide League on the final day of last season, beating Liverpool 1-0 at Valley Parade. Their manager Paul Jewel left to go to relegated Sheffield Wednesday and has since been replaced by Chris Hutchings.
