Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Lennie For Continent

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 01/09/2000

Lennie Lawrence today revealed that he is looking to bring trialists in from the continent to enlarge the Grimsby Squad. Looking specifically at Scandinavia, the Grimsby boss said, "Their season ends in September/October and many will be on Bosman's"

Grimsby, who are one of the few remaining clubs in the English league with only British players on the books are moving towards the way of most other clubs some of whom who have a string of foreign players to call upon. Scandinavia has a reputation of providing good but cheaper players to English clubs and Grimsby are looking at getting some of them. This is good new for the fans. With the last season results fresh in their minds and the horrific start to this season, they now have something to cheer about. Lennie Lawrence, in a few days, has demonstrated that he means business. As he admitted himself, he has not signed many foreign players in his career but that has not stopped him moving for them at Grimsby. Those days of Bonetti at Blundell Park were very inspiring and if Town can revitalise itself by bringing in overseas players we may yet see another similar era at Grimsby Town. Let us hope so. Hats off to Lennie!!
