Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Wot? No Striker!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 04/10/2000

Grimsby Town reserves play a game today against Stoke City reserves at Blundell Park. Kick off 2.00pm. Normally, there is little interest in reserve games but the match today is a very important fixture for the Mariners.

Manager, Lennie Lawrence has five trialists playing in the reserves side as he looks to strengthen the squad in an attempt to improve our performance. His hopes are that some of the trialists are good enough to be offered a contract or a loan period at the club. Lektonen, Murray, Batty, Moises and Lenhart will be playing as will Wayne Burnett who is striving to achieve full match fitness after finally recovering from his groin problems. Lenhart and Moises who where both released a week ago flew back to the club on Monday and are staying for a further week. Unfortunately, not one of these trialists is a striker. Lektonen is a centre back, Murray a midfielder, Batty a goalkeeper, Moises a centre back and Lenhart is a winger. However, Lennie was due to travel abroad this week to look at an international striker and other players. This is a worrying time as we approach crisis point for Town and the week's layoff due to the International games is a short respite for Lennie who will be able to continue his search for someone who can help in ending our goal drought. We hope to have a report on the game and the trialist's progress later today.
