Reserves Beat Lincoln

By: Nick Osborne
Date: 25/10/2000

Town reserves came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Lincoln this afternoon at Blundell Park. Lincoln took the lead on 6 minutes after a bad back pass by Chapman.Burnett picked up the ball on the Town right midway in our own half and, having nowhere to go, started to back-peddle towards the box.

Although not under any real pressure, he just had no one to pass to, so sent the ball across the 18 yard line to Chapman on the other side of the pitch. Not under any real threat Chapman limply attempted to passed it to Croudson, but a Lincoln forward nipped rounded the keeper and scored.

After that the game was a bit up and down, to say the least, with both teams having chances to score, though Town had more of the play than the Imps. On 28 minutes, Town broke away down the middle and BLOOMER banged in the equaliser.

Town started the better in the 2nd half and where unlucky not to take the lead early on. The game looked like it would stay at 1-1 although there were plenty of chances being created. In the 73rd minute some neat work down the Town right saw the ball land to CLARE on the edge of the box who whacked in a cracking goal from about 18 yards out.

Town continued to create chances and where very unlucky on a few occasions. It was a very cold and windy afternoon, and the crowd of about 200 saw Town run out deserved winners.
