Is football a business or a sport?

Stadium Phase 2

Grimsby Town Football Club's outline planning application for the new stadium will go before NELC's Planning Committee on January 19. This is the second phase of the planning process with the NELC previously agreeing to change the Local Plan to allow the stadium at Great Coates.

The Great Coates Nimbys are reported to have lodged objections to the plan, which, if passed, must be referred to the Secretary of State for the Environment, John Prescott (pictured), who will make a decision as to whether the NELC can make the decision or if a public inquiry is necessary. If the minister allows the NELC to determine the issue and grant planning permission without a public inquiry, the preparation work for the stadium can commence. NELC will get notification from the minister as to his intentions within a month or so. Although the NELC planning committee will make some decisions regarding provision for protecting the residents of Great Coates and traffic considerations, planning permission is expected to be granted.
