Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Fostervold Rested

Lennie Lawrence is resting Norwegian left-sided defender Knut Anders Fostervold for today's game against Crewe, as he feels the 29-year-old has been over-exposed to the rigours of football in recent months. Fostervold, on loan from FC Molde, is expected to start today's game on the bench.

With the Norwegian season finishing before Fostervold signed for the Mariners on loan in November, the left back has been playing continually for the past nine months. Fostervold was dropped for last week's cup game against Wycombe, a match in which the Grimsby manager promised nobody would feature in who was not 100% fit.

"He's battered a bit lately with a broken nose and bruised ribs and he needed a rest," explained Lawrence to the Grimsby Evening Telegraph. "They only get a short summer break and for him it's been nine months now where they've been playing continuously."

Lawrence is still seeking to buy Fostervold, and has recently upped his bid for the player. FC Molde are seeking £325K for Fostervold, a figure that was "agreed" between the two clubs prior to his loan spell at Blundell Park. "I've faxed an other offer. They said no to the original one." said Lawrence.
