Is football a business or a sport?

Injury List 26/01

By: Peter Forrester
Date: 26/01/2001

The latest injury update from Blundell Park is as follows, with Grimsby's physio Paul Mitchell being kept busy at present with a stream of players in need of treatment

Richard Smith: The ex-Leicester defender picked up a knock on his ankle but is not thought to miss any significant time although the injury may make him a doubt for Saturday's important home match against Portsmouth.

Danny Butterfield: The young right back limped off in the game at Edgeley Park after pulling his hamstring and will be out for about 2 weeks. Will Town miss the young star, with John McDermott back in contention?

Peter Handyside: The former Under-21 Scotland player picked up an ankle injury in the reserve game against York. The central defender is rated about 50-50 at the present moment.

Tony Gallimore: The ex-Carlisle left back is recovering well from a groin strain and may be back in training as early as next week.

Steve Croudson: The promising keeper has sore ribs after the reserve match at York but should be back in time for Saturday to resume his place as Grimsby's regular back-up keeper.

Adam Buckley: The son of former Grimsby manager Alan Buckley strained his knee ligaments during the York reserve match and has had an injection to help the left winger back to full fitness.

Knut Anders Fostervold: The Norwegian on-loan left back is still struggling with knee injuries.

Matthew Bloomer: Matt still has a foot injury but Grimsby's physio Paul Mitchell has said that he is making progress and will be back to his best soon.

Andy Smith: The rookie midfielder picked up shin and calf injuries against York reserves at Bootham Crescent on Wednesday. The calf problem is causing Smith more problems, although his shin is responding to treatment.
