A Hull of a Mess

By: Matt Westcott

Crisis club, Hull City have suggested the idea of playing matches at Blundell Park after being locked out of their own ground. Town's Third Division neighbours found the gates to Boothferry Park locked yesterday after multi-millionaire owner, David Lloyd decided to take action over unpaid rent.

Boss Brian Little told Radio Five Live today (Tuesday): "I received a phone call from the directors of the football club advising me of the situation. What the outcome will be I am not sure."

The Tigers now face a race against time to get back into Boothferry Park before Saturday's home clash with Leyton Orient. Chairman Nick Buchanan said: "If we have to play at Scunthorpe, Grimsby, York, Mansfield or anywhere else we will do. David Lloyd will not win because if he does there will be no Hull City."

City are due at the High Court tomorrow to face a winding-up order over an unpaid (pounds) 400,000 VAT bill, one of several large debts they have incurred.

Whether or not the Tigers have approached Town over the possibility of holding a game at Blundell Park and whether Football League rules would allow such a move is unclear.

With The Mariners playing at Gillingham this weekend the ground would be free but the prospect of having a basement division club playing on a pitch barely having recovered from last weekend's rain doesn't bare thinking about.
