Who will win League 2?

Town Track Dutch Keeper

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 11/04/2001

GRIMSBY TOWN are reported to be interested in Dutch Under-19 goalkeeper Ronald Ermes, who is looking for a new contract after being released by Dutch amateur side SC Feyenord.

Planetfootball.com report that the shotstopper failed to make the necessary grade to join the full squad at De Kuip (above), and will be a free agent in the summer. Ermes was one of numerous trialists brought by Lennie Lawrence to Blundell Park, and played in March's 3-2 reserve victory over Darlington at Feethams.

Town are widely expected to sell Welsh international goalkeeper Danny Coyne in the summer, so will need to stengthen the squad's contenders for the No.1 jersey - an area in which The Mariners are already short in numbers. A number of clubs including Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are waiting to snap up Coyne in the close season, for a fee close to £1 million.

Lennie Lawrence chose to bring in Coventry third choice keeper Morten Hyldgaard shortly before the transfer deadline as cover for Town's senior pair of Coyne and Steve Croudsen during the final few games of the season.

Hyldgaard himself has spoken of ambitions of staying at Blundell Park beyond his loan spell, but would probably cost a fee as he is believed to be under contract next season at Highfield Road. "If there is an opportunity here and if I do well at Grimsby, them or another club might want to take me." said the Danish keeper shortly after his arrival at Blundell Park on loan until the end of the season.
