Handyside in Final Talks Today

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 05/07/2001

PETER HANDYSIDE will be having talks with Stoke City again today to determine his future. With Stoke reported to have increased their offer to him Lennie Lawrence might just have a slim chance of him staying with Town.

Lawrence had his final words with him before the commencement of pre-season training yesterday and left to have a further meeting with officials of Stoke City today but he may wait until after the weekend to make his decision although Stoke are insisting that today is the deadline.

Town boss Lawrence told the Grimsby Telegraph, "If he wants the weekend to think about it then that's up to him. But ideally, I would like him here by Friday as he's already missed two days training. If he's going to be with us he has to be training on Monday - 100 per cent certain. He doesn't have to have signed by then, but he has to be training."

Wayne Burnett also has to decide his future after returning to training with Town and agreeing to a week-by-week contract despite having an offer of a two-year contract on the table. Burnett however, is unhappy with the terms of the offer with his wages depending largely on first team appearances.
