A SUCCESSFUL NIGHT for the Mariners in the second of three matches on their Scandinavia tour was cemented by goals from Grimsby strikers Michael Jeffrey and Jonathan Rowan. Kevin Ellison once again failed start the game, his thigh injury having not responded to treatment in time for the fixture.

Norwegian trialist Stian Thomassen did however play, and as expected started the game alongside Paul Raven, the pair occupying the two central defensive berths.

Reports from Sweden suggest the 24-year-old Norwegian defender in search of a contract did not have a particularly successful game and appeared to lack match fitness.

The Swedish 2nd division team was sprinkled with players from the lower division teams Anderslöv and Ymor. "It would had been wrong if we had won the match. But we played well in the second half and I'm pleased with the IFK players," said IFK coach Anders Grimberg.

The players from Ymor and Anderslöv could also leave the pitch with pride. Inspired youngsters from the lower division teams got the chance to taste fast football from the superior opposition team.

Grimsby complete their first foreign tour for 15 years on Wednesday with a trip to Denmark to play Koge BK (2pm). The first two games have resulted in a draw and now a win, with the Mariners scoring four goals in the process.
